Module 1 AH HAs

23 Jan

The last two weeks have felt like an epic journey through the land of learning technologies.  Along the way, I asked myself things like: What’s a widget?  Where can I find the settings and/or tools?  Should I register with LinkedIn?  What’s multimedia?  Moodle…Photostory?  What’s that?  Google well?  Why?  Surprisingly, I know the answers now!  I stumbled along the way and felt frustrated and overwhelmed.  Reading and commenting on posts in the discussion board and revisiting the rubrics numerous times were enlightening and helpful during this learning adventure.  I tried to stick to a schedule and work productively for two hours each night.  I feel proud of my accomplishments in the first module and enjoyed setting up my blog.

I have learned so much that it’s heard to identify the “big idea” that has had the greatest impact on me.  However, I know the use of weblogs as an instructional tool will influence my teaching practices the most.  Blogs are informative, reflective, creative, and fun!  I would love to have a classroom blog but I will need to find out my county’s policy first.  So, I’ll start with a blog to share professional practices, strategies, and resources.

The second ah ha was discovering the technology standards for teachers and assessing myself.  Creating a professional blog will satisfy Standards 3, 4 and 5 but I still need to focus on designing  and teaching lessons with technology.  The digital storytelling project in the next module will surely get me started in the right direction.

    Nikki,
I love the weekly poll! Where did you find that?

I feel like the first module has been such a journey for me too! I hope the next modules are just as good. 🙂

I share many of the same sentiments after Module 1. It is very refreshing to know I am not the only one who was feeling overwhelmed. I also feel as though the blogging experience has been a productive one. I thought of how useful it might have been last semester when we were reading all of those books for 503. If we had posted annotations on a blog as we went along, the project may not have seemed as overwhelming as it did at the time. I would also like to use blogging in my position as media specialist. I am going to need to check my district’s policy as well. It seems as though the technology that I most often want to use is the exact technolgy that is not permitted to use!

Yes, a blog would have been a wonderful way to share our annotations! Then, we could have read each others, too.
